250 Lebanese Jews Return - worldjewishnewsagency.org

July 6th, 2006 at 12:12 am

I’ve come across an article on the World Jewish News Agency website. I’m not familiar with the site but one can not help but question the content of the article. By all means, this would be a wonderful surprise but I couldn’t confirm. This article is not from our resources and is attributed to only the World Jewish News Agency.

Undated Article is as follows:

All indications lead to believe that the Jewish community is safe for now in Lebanon. The World Jewish News Agency learned that approximately 250 Lebanese Jews who used to live in the Jewish district of Wadi Abou Jmil in Beirut returned home this week. Their shops are open, the synagogue will go under intense repair and renovation, the small Jewish market will open next week and an official meeting between the new leaders of the Jewish community of Wadi Abou Jmil will meet next week with the Maronite Bishop in Acharafiyeh and the Muslim Mufti in Bastah, Beirut.

I don’t think that article would have been from that site - unfortunately that site isn’t really about anything other than war, war & war!

There will be one day justice and peace and a big role will be played by Israelis that know what happened in Lebanon and in Iraq in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s… many know - but there needs to be the first to speak up to break the cycle of war which now has its own logic - the winners being US, UK weapons manufacturers, the losers being all of us

ITS A VERY NICE SITE , ITS OK , BUT THERE IS SO MANY THINGS TO WRITE ABOUT THE JEWISH LEBANES COMUNITIE ,YOU HAVE TO RECOLLECT MORE , MUCH MORE INFO ,AND FOTOS
I WAS BORN IN BEYRUTH IN 1953 AND LEAVE IN 1969 , I REMEMBER THE GREAT LIFE BETWEEN THE JEWISHS , MUSLUMS, CHIITS , DURZS AND CHRISTIANS , ALL ARE THE SAME ,REMEMBER MY FATHER MAKE BUISNESS WITH ALL OF THEM ONLY BY WORDS , SOMETIMES I ASK MYSELF WHY WE CANT GET PEACE AGAIN AND LIVE TOGETHER LIKE OLD TIMES,
WHY HIZBOLLAH HAVE TO DISTROY LEBANON ? WHY SIRIA DONT GIVE LEBANON HIS REAL INDEPENDENCE ?? WHY BOTH DONT LEAVE LEBANESE PEOPLE LIVE THER OWN LIFE ???

I HOPE TO GO BACK ONE DAY,

Finally a site dedicated to the Jews of Lebanon. I have been searching for the past 7 years for relevant info about this community. Besides some of my families friends, i havent been able to get any serious info about our Jews. I have been to the Synagogue various times, the Magen Avraham and the defunct Deir el Qamar one too. I have spent hours in the Sodeco cemetary just reading tombstones to gather a bit of info on what kind of people were in the kehilla here, and i see that there was a mix of Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews here at one point. I dont know how many Jews are left, but im sure that they still exist and that the Magen Avraham will be restored. The Jews of Lebanon surprisingly enough (i feel) still have an attachment to their country and according to many of my family friends, would return gladly once they feel at ease. Thanx for this site and im sure i will be a regular visitor.

well, that’s very good news for Lebanon . Now the 18 different religious sects
will be 19.Isn’t that great?I truly think that this diversity enriches the
Lebanese society, who knows maybe these Lebanese Jews can
play a role in mediating peace talks between Israel and Lebanon who I believe must sign a peace agreement because the Lebanese people
are free and open plus having the advantage of not being ruled by a bloody Dictator like Bashar Assad .I am Syrian and
I hope that one day the Syrian Jews will return to Syria but I think that
won’t happen under the rule of Bashar Assad whose father’s secret police
(Mukhabarat)kept harassing and persecuting the Jewish communities in
Damascus and Aleppo until they fled the country. But we must also
make sure that after the Dictator the islamists wouldn’t come to
power because they are worse than Assad.

Well, i hope that all Lebanese living home or abroad, christian, jews or Muslims live in peace or harmony. The only message that Lebanon will ever carry is peace, and while peace is only achieved by not surrendering (the alleged peace agreement) to Israel but making it clear that Lebanon is ready to defend its territory in the right ways.
by the way, while quoting from the guy named “andy Said”, Hizbollah war was never against the jews as a religion, it’s only against our “enemy of the state” (the whole united lebanese state) Israel who happened to be a jewish state (and i’m verry saddened by that matter: judaesm in Israel is used as a cover to fund unhumane and terrorits actions done by israelis, and thats wrong to use a relegion as a national cover while secularism and not secterianism is the answer for peace), and let me remind you all that in 2000, 18 british jewish rabbies and religious figures came to Lebanon after a invitation by Hizbollah to discuss how to diffrentiate between judaism and the Israeli state and how to bring peace between all the religions of the world and also to discuss the possible return of british jewish from Lebanese origins to Lebanon (the ones that are not holding an israeli passport or citizenship or did not ever visited israel).
so please be carefull of what you say, and research every world before mention. the very best of Good luck for this website from deep of my heart. and from a web programmer if you need any help in administrating this web i’ll be always available.

its offending to see the name of our country leanon beside the damn word “jews”…its really sad, but what makes things better is our victory in the last war,we made them regret it :)

  18. Michel Said,

    February 23, 2007 @ 4:45 pm

    To Mowatena Lobnaniyya
My sister, during the last war we won ,yes we did ,but ,we were not having this war for religious reasons ,too bad israel calls itself a jewish state ,however we know that there is a lot of jews that don’t support the israeli behavor in the mideast .
and we all should be proud of all these lebanese jews ,because they proove that lebanon is “multi-religions” country (lebanon in this case is the exact opposite of israel and all of this makes israel weaker and weaker…)
    Lebanon is not a state it’s a message .
    Peace

not all jews are zionist, Ive believed this for a lllllllllllllong time. Its like saying all Muslims are terrorist or all Christains are fundamentalist.
no I do not feel ashamed to put the word jew next to Lebanon as it is a fact……its like saying a christain or Muslim lebanese.

I REMEMBER TO YOU ALL, AGAIN, AGAIN, AGAIN THIS IDEA: Every jew from world (99% of them), in everywhere they live, will love Israel, the first homeland for all them (Religion homeland). ZION is SION, YERUSHALAIM, JERUSALEM. Jerusalem is always in jewish religion, like the world “Israel” (homeland and Jacob, Isaac’s son). IT’S SURE!!! Every jew loves Jerusalem in his religion. SION is for all jews / hebrew. Respect for all. I’m not speaking about Israeli’s wars, NO, don’t worry. I’m speaking about LOVE for every nation from middle east. IF THERE IS NO EXISTENCE, THERE IS NO COEXISTENCE. Coexistence for all PEOPLE. I love this blog but, often, I’m sorry because of some words. ShalomSalaam to you all, I hope that my opinion (not only of mine) is understood. ShalomSalaam to Libnen and to all Middle-East. I love Libnen but not all his politc moviments. I love Israel and Palestine but not wars and terrorism. I LOVE EXISTENCE IN ALL REGION, IN ALL MIDDLE-EAST REGION. This is my opinion, my idea is myself, my idea is my life. Andrea.
