I am a Lebanese who was recently told my grandma is Jewish.
I do consider myself Lebanese, as my Nationalism is to Lebanon, ethnically Jewish and adhere to the Christian and Buddhist religions.
I lived with the Jewish community in Canada and even the Jewish Lebanese don’t believe any Jewish people are still living in Lebanon while I personally know more than 20.
It is very important to explain to Lebanese and fellow Arab and Iranian neighbors that Lebanon will always be big enough for all its people no matter what is their ethnic belonging, or religious faith, or color, or …. etc.

I remember my father, Cecil Joseph dos Remedios, who was born Shanghai 1915 and lived there until 1 year after the Japanese occupation relating a story to me of how he assisted in getting Victor Sassoon's art treasures out of Shanghai by PT boat. Would anybody else have further knowledge of this?

Lebanese from all religious communities should volunteer and participate in the restoration efforts of the Synagogue and cemetry. In fact religious monuments of historic relevance of all religions should become nationally protected monuments as in any other civilized society. We are proud of our diversity and the various communities are what make the unique fabric of our society which is inherently tolerant and secular.

As a matter of fact my message is to every one visiting this site, especially Andrea. Racism do exist in every person, it could be religious racism, color racism....In Lebanon it is a racism against every one who is not Lebanese (racism or pride!!! you can call it what ever you want), but the painfull thing is that none of us is thinking as every Lebanese should do, none of us is thinking about Lebanon, about our identity. Are we Phoenician? Arabs? Romains? Jews? We are all Human beings and if we will not put aside all the political and the religious issues, we will not have peace in our souls and with each others.
So Jews, Arabs, Christians, keep this aside and think as Lebanese, and don't forget that the religious diversity should be a positive point for Lebanon.
Andrea, si tu veux parler en Francais, tu es la bienvenue....
Thanks
Najib
